Layoff Support

These are all normal reactions to receiving a layoff notice. After all, like death or divorce, a layoff is an ending to a chapter. Do not feel pressured to react swiftly to the news. Give yourself time to sit and breathe, before you start pondering the "what ifs?" that may follow.

Once you are ready to respond, consider the following steps as applicable to your specific situation.

2. If your health insurance is a condition of your employment, schedule healthcare visits as needed prior to the end of your insurance period.
3. Review any prescription expiration dates and discuss their extensions with your medical team.
4. Research the balances of your flexible savings and health savings accounts (FSAs & HSAs).
5. Review the terms of any outstanding retirement account loans. 
6. Review your credit report.
7. Assess savings and expenses. 
8. Contact lenders as needed to discuss new payment options.
9. Review employer benefits for options on mental health counseling, financial coaching, and outplacement support.
10. Seek emotional support from friends & family.
